As a researcher at an architectural firm, Joel McKellar has studied everything from proxemics (the study of personal space) to the mating habits of sea turtles (to see how island construction practices could affect their reproduction).
With a family of architects, engineers, contractors and teachers, McKellar said he’s essentially melded those professions into one.
McKellar believes you should “always do great work regardless of the task,” so he works hard at his somewhat varied career.
“Green” projects are becoming a large part of LS3P Associates revenue so McKellar devotes a great deal of time to managing and documenting the firm’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design projects.
“These green projects now account for over 20 percent of our firm’s revenue, and that figure is rising rapidly as clients are increasingly aware of the enormous impacts that buildings can have on the health of our communities.”

Favorite hour of the day and why: 6:30 a.m. — this is when I hit snooze and doze for about 30 minutes.
