Vice president, Trevelino/Keller Communications Group

As the vice president of Trevelino/Keller Communications Group, a boutique public relations firm specializing in strategic and creative communications, Kira Perdue is able to be creative and affect change while making a living.

Her days are filled managing projects and teams while communicating daily with her clients. She talks to the media about story ideas, writes speeches, determines brand strategies and attends conferences and tradeshows.

She regularly employs a piece of advice from one of her bosses, which is to use people for their strengths.

“Not every employee is good at everything, but they likely have some strength that would be very beneficial for the company and clients,” Perdue said. “Find out what that is and nurture that, and don’t necessarily try and force those folks into the existing job descriptions.”

Perdue also sits on the board of My Sister’s House, working to provide services, programs and resources to victims of domestic violence.

Books on your nightstand: “Great American Short Stories,” “The Shining,” Time magazine, Upton Sinclair’s “The Jungle,” “Kite Runner” and “Peter Pan.”

Best stress reliever: Catching a nice, big bass; a good, long day at the beach reading a silly magazine, breathing in the salt air; and a long, big hug from my husband.

Favorite hour of the day and why: That’s an easy answer for me: dusk. Everything just seems to be settling/slowing down, kids are laughing and getting ready for bed, tree frogs start to chirp, wine is poured —  and, no matter what your day was like today, you can breathe out and start to feel the promise of tomorrow.
