CEO, Metanoia Community Development Corp.
The Rev. Bill Stanfield’s professional goal is “to build a movement of diverse people that can understand and exercise their power in making our communities more in line with God’s priorities of love, mercy and justice.”
Stanfield is fulfilling that goal as CEO of Metanoia Community Development Corp., an organization he founded more than five years ago. With a tight budget and a small staff, Metanoia runs a daily leadership development program for 50 community youth, builds homes for first-time home buyers and renovates homes for people on fixed incomes, all while generating economic development in the community through a training academy for minority contractors, a local farmer’s market and a youth entrepreneurship incubator.
He also serves as associate minister at St. Matthew Baptist Church, as a board member of Charleston Area Community Development Corp. and Family Services Inc. and as treasurer of the Chicora Neighborhood Council.
Books on your nightstand: “Blood Done Sign My Name” by Timothy B. Tyson, “Blue Like Jazz” by Donald Miller and Gandhi’s autobiography.
Best stress reliever: A few days in silence at Mepkin Abbey.
Favorite vacation spot: Anywhere I can backpack into the woods without a cell phone or TV.
Favorite hour of the day and why: My wife and I don’t always eat dinner at the same time because of our schedules, but it is my favorite hour of the day. We always light candles and tend to linger to share about life. She’s my best friend.
