Transportation planner, Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority
With a desire to make Charleston a better place and a penchant for public service, Peter Tecklenburg took a job with CARTA. It was his chance to contribute.
“On a daily basis, I take part in shaping a segment of the Charleston community. I have seen my actions contribute to people being able to get to their jobs, quality medical care and places of education.”
CARTA isn’t the only way Tecklenburg gives back. He is on the board of directors of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, a mentor at James Simons Elementary School, belongs to the leadership network of the South Carolina New Democrats, is a chapter leader for the Seton Hall University Alumni Association and a parishioner at Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Favorite restaurant: I really like Red Drum Gastropub, but you can never go wrong with just a pulled pork sandwich from Home Team BBQ.
Best stress reliever: Playing with my Boykin Spaniel Ellie. Her enthusiasm for each day is contagious.
Person you would like to meet: Garrison Keillor or Mark Twain. I just like being around people who can tell good stories.
First job: Working at a sub shop on Edisto Beach. It is hard to describe how much fun I had at that job. I left with probably less skills than I came in with but enough stories for a lifetime.
