The Business Journal's Forty Under 40 Print E-mail

When it comes to selecting 40 outstanding community and business leaders, the judges have their work cut out for them. So many young people are starting businesses, leading corporations, managing people and projects, volunteering and juggling spouses and young children.

How exactly do 40 people rise to the top of the list each year? The Charleston Regional Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 awards are about well-rounded lifestyles that focus on work and community. Plenty of business people give 110% to their jobs, which in turn make this region thrive economically. However, lots of people go beyond that and donate their personal time and talents to the countless nonprofits and charitable organizations in the Lowcountry. We take this opportunity to honor the people who go above and beyond in both realms.

Forty Under 40 winners can work all day and then coach youth soccer. Forty Under 40 winners attend breakfast board of directors meetings, head to the office and then spend time with their family in the evening. These are the people who get up early and stay up late so they can squeeze in a little extra volunteer work.

One of this year’s judges and a past winner, Channing Proctor, said, “There were so many wonderful candidates for Forty Under 40 nominated, the decision to narrow down to a specific list was a difficult one. It's nice to know that so many successful young people call Charleston home. I primarily based my decisions on the accomplishments individuals had attained balancing their professional career and giving back to the community."

With this award we want to honor young professionals who take community service to the next level. These people are the future of our community and we tip our hats to their awesome commitment to their professional, personal and philanthropic endeavors.
