Chastain Construction Inc. has found that focusing on a particular niche within the construction industry has brought the most success.
The firm specializes in commercial, medical and institutional construction projects and believes this approach has led to repeat clients and continued market expansion, said Cameron Drolet, company vice president.
From 2005 to 2006, Chastain Construction saw its revenue increase by 104%. Yet it’s no easy task to maintain revenue growth in the triple digits.
Drolet attributed the company’s ability to maintain its growth to “the performance of high-quality construction with a firm and fair approach to our vendors, subcontractors and suppliers.”
Growth and success also means adapting to changes in the marketplace and to competition.
“Strategically, we have become focused on a select share of the construction market that we perform effectively and that has become profitable for the business,” Drolet said.
For Chastain Construction, competition isn’t always a negative.
“Competition keeps you on focus and allows you to make market corrections if you are not successful in obtaining a project,” Drolet said.
As the company expands, so does the size of the staff. And that makes smart hiring critical. Drolet said Chastain has modified its management practices by delegating more and by hiring competent staff to handle company operations.
When a company finds a formula that works, it’s often best to stay the course. That’s exactly what Chastain has planned for its future.
“Our business plan remains on track for managed moderate growth,” Drolet said. “We plan to stay focused on providing the highest quality of construction services to our clients.”
