For Arcadia Publishing, it’s all about celebrating America’s people and places.

“We publish remarkable books that appeal to people’s inherent nostalgic instinct by evoking emotion and an appreciation for their heritage,” CEO Richard Joseph said. “Our unique approach to publishing books that focus on communities and niche interests has created a large, loyal, nationwide customer base.”

Focusing on quality books, recruiting and motivating a top-notch team of employees and finding authors who want to share their passion with a wider audience are the key elements that have contributed to Arcadia’s success in recent years.

To keep up with its growth, Joseph said, Arcadia hasn’t tried to sidestep modifying its business plan.

“We have recognized that as the company gets larger, it needs more efficient systems in finance, production, distribution and information technology,” he said. “Our commitment to sales and marketing is growing.”

Not only does a growing company have to re-evaluate its business plan, but adjusting its management practices becomes a component of success.

Arcadia’s business plan and management style are attuned to the company’s employees.

“As the company grows, our management practices continue to evolve through empowerment of the team and placing increased accountability on employees,” Joseph said. “An environment of mutual trust and respect is an overarching requirement of such change and is nurtured daily.”

Arcadia’s business strategies are paying off. Between 2005 and 2006, the company’s revenue increased 23%.

Joseph said a high level of customer service has helped Arcadia maintain its growth and success. The company gives its customers sales and marketing support while also exploring new initiatives and areas of growth.

“Our customers trust that we will bring a consistent and quality product to the market, so they continue to buy our new titles,” he said. “Year in and year out, we reinvest in the growth of the company by integrating new technologies, products and staff.”
