Total number of local employees: 35.
Top local executive: Patrick Evans, president.
Product or service: Landscape installation, irrigation, landscape lighting, lawn maintenance, drainage, tree mitigation, consulting and pre-bid meetings, fences, decks and outdoor living areas.
Year founded locally: 1997.
The last year has brought plenty of growth and change to Evans Group Landscape Construction. The spike in local construction offered numerous growth opportunities and ways for the company to support its customers.
“We offer the same services that many other companies provide; the difference is our commitment to our customers,” said Patrick Evans, president. “Their best interest is our best interest, and the one thing I’ve discovered is, ‘The customer doesn’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.’ We become a building partner with our clients. Setting the pace early in our relationship allows them to avoid unforeseen costly mistakes and any delays which could arise during the process.”
Evans Group saw its revenue increase 63% between 2005 and 2006. That growth brought some changes to the company’s overall strategic plan. The company is increasing its base of commercial clients and bringing lawn maintenance, something the company offered in the late 1990s, back to its list of services.
“Restructuring our plan has brought us back to where we began in 1997,” Evans said. “It’s very exciting, and I know our customers are happy, and truly, it’s really about making them happy.”
Despite depressing economic reports, subprime lending issues, falling home prices and stagnant new home construction, Evans said he is optimistic about the landscaping industry.
Evans Group’s future plans include adding more hardscapes for its customers, such as fences, decks and outdoor living areas with concrete walkways and patios.
The company also has teamed up with one of its major suppliers, John Deere, to provide financing to residential clients.
“We feel that sales will stay about the same, and while other companies will cut services, we will add a few,” he said. “(The year) 2008 will be about improvise, adapt and overcome.”
