Thomas L. Hucks II, administrator and owner of Medical Research South LLC, likens his company’s success to the game of golf.

“We found the sweet spot,” he said. “Our systems, policies and procedures were working in complete harmony with our staff. A well-trained, dedicated and goal-oriented staff put these systems to work. The company met its enrollment goals and in many cases surpassed them.”

Between 2005 and 2006, the company’s revenue increased 92%.

Hucks credits a solid foundation for the company’s ability to maintain its growth and success over the years.

“To quote my father, Thomas L. Hucks: ‘To succeed in anything you must have a solid foundation.’ Our approach to business from day one was slow and steady,” Hucks said. “By controlling growth in the beginning, we were able to focus on our systems and operating procedures. The end result (is) an efficient, accurate and reliable service.”

This year, Medical Research South is expanding its facility and operations with a new 18,000-square-foot medical facility that will accommodate the company’s new 4,000-square-foot office with space available for physicians’ practices.

In addition, early this year Medical Research South will introduce its services to North Charleston, serving the patient population and medical community of North Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

These new initiatives are part of Medical Research South’s efforts to remain competitive in an ever-growing clinical research industry.

“Our approach to competition has remained constant: Focus on the quality of our work, and the work will continue,” Hucks said. “We continue to build relationships in the health care community and strive to be innovative in our approach toward community awareness with regard to the importance and necessity of clinical trials.”
