Renovations rise as new building falls |

COLUMBIA -- Midlands-area home building permits continued to fall in April, but there was good news for one segment of the building industry: Home renovations have risen 33% from this time last year. “It does seem that the interest in making remodeling and home improvements is increasing and maybe ahead of the curve,” said Earl McLeod, chief executive of the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia.
