SC BIZ News LLC, owner of the Charleston Regional Business Journal and SC BIZ magazine, today announced the acquisition of GSABUSINESS, a bi-weekly business journal covering the Upstate.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

“The opportunity for growth for GSABUSINESS is now at a point where there is only so much growth we can do on our own,” said Joe Thaler, owner of The Gnu’s Paper Co. “Brown Publishing is developing a lot of presence in business news in all of South Carolina. There is overlapping news that would benefit the Upstate.”

In January, the Charleston Regional Business Journal and its affiliated print and electronic publications, and its parent company, Setcom Media Inc., were sold to Brown Publishing Co., parent company of SC BIZ News.

“We are excited by this acquisition. By linking GSABUSINESS with the Charleston Regional Business Journal, our statewide magazine, SC BIZ, and our August 2008 launch of the Columbia Regional Business Report, we have created a true statewide business news organization,” said Grady Johnson, publisher and CEO of SC BIZ News LLC.

“To my knowledge, we are the only news organization in the state of South Carolina to have fully staffed newsrooms and sales offices in all three of the major metro markets in the state,” Johnson said. “The ability to conduct local business news reporting in Charleston, Columbia and Greenville and publish news with statewide relevance in all of the markets will knit the state’s business decision-makers together in ways that can be quite profound for the economic growth of South Carolina.”
