COLUMBIA -- With shoppers looking for more savings in tight times, this year’s school-time S.C. sales tax holiday could approach records, state officials predict. Shoppers have saved an average of $2.8 million in state sales tax each year since the three-day event started in 2000. The high mark of $3.6 million came in the event’s inaugural year. The ninth-annual tax-free weekend begins at midnight Friday and concludes at midnight on Aug. 3.
