COLUMBIA -- Connecticut-based EMCOR Government Services Inc. has entered into a mentor-protégé agreement with Columbia-based CMARK International. The agreement, which was approved by the Department of Defense, helps small businesses compete for contracts and subcontracts by partnering with large companies.

EMCOR is a Fortune 500 company and specializes in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services. CMARK, the protégé, is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business and provides facility and logistic support services and products to government agencies.

EMCOR will provide CMARK with financial supervision, management recruiting, contract management and assist with business development, focusing on U.S. government agencies that set aside work for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. This year, the federal government, including the DOD, Veterans Administration and the U.S. Small Business Administration set a goal for the government to award at least 3% of its contracts to service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.

EMCOR already serves as a mentor to small businesses on projects at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., and at the U.S. Navy facilities in Millington, Tenn.

"CMARK has been successful in subcontracting relationships with multiple prime vendors to the federal government and seeks to expand on that success as a protégé of EMCOR Government Services," said Charles Jones, president and CEO of CMARK International.
