GREENVILLE -- The S.C. Department of Labor and Skyline Exhibits & Design Inc. are partnering to offer an apprenticeship program in graphic design for an entry-level student.

The chosen candidate will receive a full-time salary and benefits while studying and attending classes along with tuition assistance.

"As opposed to bringing in an intern who will be gone after the semester, this Apprenticeship program which yields a certified 'journeyman' will allow us to truly train a person and develop their skills over a two to three year time frame," said Steve Hoffman, president of Skyline Exhibits and Design.

The candidate will work full time at the Greenville offices of Skyline, getting hands-on experience in graphic design, working with everything from two-dimensional design, 3-D structural design, CAD, Photoshop, and interacting with clients and advertising agencies.

At the same time, the candidate will spend more than 1,000 hours in the classroom at Greenville Tech over a 3-year period, receiving an associate's degree in Graphic Design upon completion.

The curriculum is pre-selected by Skyline and the state with the help of Shane Howell, department head of Visual and Performing Arts at Greenville Tech. Required classes will range from English and humanities to photography and Web design.

"The power in this opportunity is for an individual with talent and promise, but perhaps little or no real world experience, to complete their formal education while gaining real world experience and being paid for it," Hoffman said.

Any candidate that meets the following qualifications is encouraged to apply:

Completion of academic coursework covering Intro to Design, Intro to Computers, Basic Drawing and Computer Graphics I. A working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.

Ability to attend at least 2-3 classes per semester while working approximately three-fourths of a full-time, flexible schedule at Skyline Exhibits & Design.

Professional demeanor and communication skills.

Two letters of reference.

Portfolio review.

Applications and resumes should be sent to Allen Sandy, creative director, SkylineExhibits & Design Inc.  346 Feaster Rd.  Greenville, SC  29615 or to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
