GREENVILLE -- Women who own their own businesses in South Carolina and North Carolina are invited to attend the Make Mine a Million $ Business program in Charlotte on Oct. 7 and compete for awards that will help them reach $1 million in annual revenues.

The program was created by Count Me In for Women’s Economic Independence and American Express OPEN in an effort to increase the number of women-owned businesses that bring in $1 million a year.

Just 2,700 of the more than 105,000 women-owned firms in South Carolina exceed $1 million in annual revenues, according to a study by Count Me In. Nationwide, women own nearly half of the businesses in the U.S., but less than 3% generate more than $1 million. This figure is less than half of the number of men-owned firms that generate $1 million or more, according to the study.

During the event, business owners will compete for awards that will provide them with the money, marketing, mentoring and technology resources that will help them reach $1 million in annual revenues.

Applicants must be South Carolina- or North Carolina-based, women-owned companies that have been in business for at least two years and have annual revenues of at least $250,000. Application deadline for the event is Sept. 11. More information is available at www.makemineamillion.org.
