COLUMBIA -- Maurice “Moss” Bresnahan is leaving ETV after seven years as president and CEO, the public broadcaster announced Friday.

Bresnahan will move to Seattle to head its public television station, KCTS.

During his tenure, ETV moved to convert to digital broadcasting and launched the South Carolina Channel, dedicated to local programming. Local programs added to ETV’s slate during his term include Carolina Stories and The Big Picture.

ETV worked to bolster its online offerings, including StreamlineSC, a streaming video service available to schools.

The network also was forced to cope with numerous state budget cutbacks.

“With all the technological changes taking place, I believe that the educational mission of ETV has never been more important,” Bresnahan said in a statement. “Because of outstanding work on the part of the ETV staff, this organization is poised for even greater achievement in the digital age.”

ETV Commission chairman Robert A. Rainey said, “We will miss the energy and vision Moss brought to ETV. Despite having a modest budget with which to operate, his diligence and creativity resulted in a body of work that makes ETV the envy of public television systems throughout the country.”

An interim CEO will be named soon, Rainey said.
