Google is a household name. Anytime you want to search for information, you “Google” it. We never say “MSN” it or “Alta Vista” it. It’s all about Google. And now Google is going to be major player in South Carolina. The search engine giant made an official announcement Wednesday regarding its plans to build a data center in Berkeley County, just outside Goose Creek.

This has the potential to be huge for the Charleston region and the state as a whole. What do you think? What sort of impact will Google have on South Carolina’s innovation economy and reputation as a technologically advanced state?

written by Brenda Freedman on April 05, 2007

Google establishing a presence would be big news any place, but for South Carolina it reinforces the ability to attract major players in the technology field to add to its reputation as a rapidly expanding technology field. There is no doubt Google's confidence in the region will attract, or at least have other companies take a look at South Carolina.

Although employment today is more mobile and people relocate, companies are smart to establish themselves in other areas creating a pool of talent, other opportunities to be realized, but most important as stated, gives the region a real boost in the economy.

Although lately, critics have been taking a stab at Google for one reason or another, there is no doubt people "Just Google It".
