Benefits extension to help Carolinas' jobless

MYRTLE BEACH -- The growing ranks of the Grand Strand jobless could be eligible for 13 extra weeks of unemployment pay after the U.S. Senate on Thursday extended benefits. The extension would give much needed support to S.C. residents struggling to find jobs, about 1,000 of whom exhaust their benefits each week, said Ted Halley, executive director of the S.C. Unemployment Security Commission.
