CLEMSON -- Carbon Motors Corp. will visit the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research next week as it considers where to locate a facility it said will create 10,000 jobs and have a $3 billion economic impact.

The Atlanta company designed an alternative energy concept car called the Carbon E7 that is built specifically for law enforcement. Carbon Motors is touring across the country to showcase and potentially sell the vehicle to municipalities. It recently stopped in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and California.

The company also is determining where to build its vehicles. The company’s site will recreate 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and have a $3 billion economic impact during a 10-year period, said Chairman and CEO William Santana Li.

“We are pleased to announce that the State of South Carolina, and specifically the CU-ICAR campus, is of keen interest to Carbon Motors,” Li stated in a news release. “The technical expertise available to Carbon Motors at CU-ICAR and the extensive, diverse automotive supply base in the region make this an attractive location for us to consider.”

The company’s timeline for production is unknown.

Carbon Motors will have a press conference at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at the AT&T Auditorium within the Carroll A. Campbell Graduate Engineering Center at CU-ICAR, 4 Research Drive, Greenville.
