GREENVILLE -- KDS Commercial Properties plans to build a two-story development at Main and McBee streets in downtown Greenville that will be anchored by a national pharmacy chain.
The 36,000-square-foot development also will have second-floor office space with additional event space available for rent, said Larry Webb, who co-owns KDS Commercial Properties.
The site has been vacant since the previous building was demolished there in 2002.
The Kiriakides family has owned the property for at least 15 years, Webb estimated. Michael Kiriakides is the other co-owner of KDS Commercial Properties. Past plans for the site were put on hold because of the economy, Webb said. At one time, a Columbia developer was going to construct a seven-story building there.
“Where we are now is we have actively been having discussions with a national pharmacy, and part of Greenville’s long-term plan was to have a pharmacy,” Webb said.
“Once they agreed to move forward with us, the project became more of a reality. Now we still have to consider economic realities, and a two story building works in today’s economy.”
Webb could not disclose the name of the pharmacy until contracts are signed.
The Greenville Design Review Board is scheduled to consider the development on Dec. 3. If approved, Webb said the company could break ground in April or May and open the building in early 2011.
Harper Corp. will handle the construction work, Webb said, and Craig Gauldin & Davis Inc. has been hired to do the design.
