The calls for Gov. Mark Sanford to resign are growing. If he does, the focus will shift to the abilities of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer to pull the state out of this economic recession. With only 18 months left on Sanford's term, House Speaker Pro Tem Harry Cato said whoever is in charge will be a "lame duck." Others disagree. |

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Shopping at Whole Foods on Wednesday afternoon, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said was not willing to forgo a run for governor in 2010 just to appease critics concerned he would have an unfair advantage if Gov. Mark Sanford resigns and Bauer steps into that role. |

SAVANNAH — The Georgia Ports Authority’s executive director predicted a slow but steady recovery in world trade on the horizon as his board signed off on a budget Monday predicting a 4% increase in container volume for the state’s terminal operations in the next 12 months. The S.C. State Ports Authority’s recently-passed 2010 fiscal year budget predicted a 6% decline in container traffic next year. |

The bi-state commission charged with overseeing development of a new container port in Jasper County approved an amendment on Monday establishing benchmarks for the project. For Georgia's and South Carolina's ports authorities to jointly build the terminal, Congress must first approve an interstate compact allowing the two state entities to go into business together. |

Four counties in South Carolina are reaping the benefits of a new tool the Charlotte Regional Partnership, a nonprofit, public/private economic development organization, is using to recruit businesses to 16 counties in the Charlotte region. The Partnership recently revamped its Web site using a geographic information system, or GIS, to provide enhanced maps and detailed information about properties. |
